Aston Villa have confirmed that Aaron Ramsey has left the club in a permanent move to join Burnley for an undisclosed fee.
The 20-year-old came through the ranks at the club and impressed at youth level, playing a key role in our FA Youth Cup success in 2021.

Promising loan spells have since followed as he has continued his development and progression, and while he had been involved with the senior squad over pre-season again this past summer, speculation has been rife for weeks that he was set to move on.
As per the club’s statement, Ramsey has now joined Burnley in a permanent switch, ending his time at Villa and the hopes of following in the footsteps of his older brother, Jacob.
Although Villa didn’t add any further details on the move, The Athletic have previously reported that the deal is worth £14m plus add-ons, and crucially, a buy-back clause is said to be included in the agreement.
In turn, while we hope the move works out for him as he looks likely to get a more prominent role at Turf Moor under Vincent Kompany and will gain valuable Premier League experience, we may well see him again down the line if he impresses Unai Emery and the hierarchy enough to exercise that clause.
That hasn’t been officially confirmed in the statement above, and so it remains to be seen if that is indeed the case, but that would certainly seem like the sensible strategy to adopt, with other young talents at the club being linked with a move away this summer too.
Naturally, there is some disappointment that Ramsey won’t follow the same path as his sibling into the first-team squad, for now at least, but if that fee is accurate coupled with the buy-back option, that is good business from the club.
It gives us a financial boost with it being profit on the sale of a youth product, and with others potentially to follow, our business in the transfer market could yet be far from over as we move towards the latter stages of the window.
Shouldn’t have sold him Villa making strange decisions at the moment
