Positive development touted in crucial contract talks with influential Villa ace

Aston Villa are reportedly growing increasingly confident over midfielder Boubacar Kamara signing a new contract extension.

The 25-year-old joined us from Marseille in 2022 and has gone on to establish himself as a pivotal figure in our side, making 97 appearances for the club in that time.

Barring a serious knee injury he sustained the season before last, that appearance tally would be much higher, as with his defensive strengths coupled with his technical ability and intelligence in possession, he has firmly established himself as a pillar in the side under Unai Emery, particularly alongside Youri Tielemans in the heart of the Villa XI.

With his current contract running until June 2027, Villa aren’t necessarily in a major rush to convince him to commit to longer terms, but given his quality coupled with the potential threat of interest from elsewhere, it would be a huge indication from both sides that we’re committed to the long-term project together to fend off any possible interest if he were to sign a new deal.

According to The Athletic, there is now growing optimism that the Frenchman will sign a new contract to extend his time with us, as there has been a wait for further news after it was initially reported in April that Villa had put an offer on the table over a new agreement.

While this is still short of an official announcement confirming a new deal is in place, this is certainly a hugely positive development given the importance of Kamara in the current side, and although we missed out on Champions League football this year, it would be a show of belief in our ability to get back there next year and in the future while also keeping one of the most influential individuals at the club.

It’s been a quiet summer thus far in the transfer market as Villa have navigated PSR and SCR concerns as a priority, and so with a big-money deal expected for Kamara, it will be interesting to see if there is a knock-on effect of that as we look to strengthen the squad where possible while also trying to reduce the wage bill to comply with the financial regulations.

Nevertheless, tying down the French midfielder’s long-term future would be a huge boost for all concerned, and so it’s hoped that there is official news soon to follow this latest report.
