‘Decision was easy’ – Key Villa figure on reasons for signing new contract

Aston Villa midfielder Boubacar Kamara has insisted that it was an easy decision to put pen to paper on a new contract extension.

The club officially announced earlier this week that the 25-year-old had signed a new deal that could keep him with us until June 2030, thus securing his long-term future and reaffirming the commitment on both sides to continue building towards success.

Given his influence and importance as a pillar in Unai Emery’s side, this could prove to be the best piece of business that Villa do this summer amid a quiet transfer window up to this point, as it is such a huge boost to continue with Kamara and Youri Tielemans in our deeper midfield pivot with transfer speculation now dismissed.

Although reports suggested that the two sides were in talks over a new contract for months, Kamara has ultimately insisted that the decision to commit and stay at Villa was an easy one, as he’s settled at the club and ready to continue to help us progress.

“I am very happy for this new contact,” he told VillaTV. “I can’t wait to come back to Villa Park.

“It was very easy, I like to be here. My family enjoy it in Birmingham, and I like the team and the manager – the decision was easy.”

Barring a serious knee injury the season before last, the Frenchman has been a mainstay in the Villa XI as his influence in both phases has been fundamental in our ability to compete at a higher level.

With a full pre-season this summer, it’s hoped that Kamara is able to take his game to the next level in the upcoming campaign and have an even bigger influence on our play, as with a lack of new signings thus far, it could be a summer of consolidation for Emery and the club as we look to get the most out of those currently at his disposal.

Kamara though looks back on his time with us positively so far, and he is clear in his objectives for the new season as we look to improve on last year by trying to return to the Champions League and end our wait for silverware.

Securing key figures like the French midfielder will go a long way to helping us achieve those goals, and it will hopefully give all concerned a real lift as our pre-season preparations continue in the USA this week.

“It’s gone fast,” he added, when asked about his time at Villa so far. “Some very good moments, some bad moments, but during these three years the team has grown up, every year we improve and I hope this season will be the same.

“[Objectives this season are to] Play very well, be competitive in every competition.

“Play, enjoy with the fans and finish better than last year.”
