Villa unveil commemorative kit to be worn to celebrate club’s 150th anniversary

Aston Villa will continue to celebrate the club’s 150th anniversary this week as the players will wear a special commemorative kit against West Ham Utd.

The Hammers visit Villa Park in the FA Cup on Friday night for our third-round tie, with the game being designated as our celebratory anniversary game, 150 years on almost to the day of our first ever recorded match.

As seen in the images below, the Villa players will wear a specially designed black kit with the red club crest to mark the occasion, which pays homage to the first kits worn by the club before we made the now infamous switch to our traditional claret and blue.

It’s a significant part of our ongoing celebrations of the anniversary and historic milestone, and those attending the game this week will be treated to various other events and discounts during their matchday experience.

“This unique anniversary kit was designed by adidas with the inspiration to deliver authenticity which is coming from the great, William McGregor,” President of Business Operations, Chris Heck, told the club’s website.

“We are so grateful to have partners that go above and beyond our partnership for the good of the fans, thank you adidas and thank you Betano and Trade Nation.”

Although Heck and the business side of the club have received criticism over the past year or so for some of the decisions that they’ve made relating to off-the-pitch matters, they have always stressed the importance of celebrating our history and honouring it in the best ways possible.

Naturally, they will see a benefit from it all too, but it’s important to celebrate our history and not forget those who have come before to help build this club into what it is today, and hopefully that will continue to be recognised and acknowledged as the anniversary plans continue to materialise.

With regards to the kit itself, it’s likely to be a popular design among supporters, and as we continue to take important strides forward under Unai Emery, it’s hoped that the current crop of players and coaching staff will continue to write their names in the club’s history books as we look to achieve something special again this season and make more memorable moments.
