Mail: Aston Villa consider reunion with Ashley Young amid Inter exit talk

Aston Villa are reportedly considering bringing Ashley Young back to the club this summer as he could leave Serie A champions Inter.

The 35-year-old has enjoyed a successful spell in Italy having helped the Nerazzurri to the Scudetto last season, although his current contract is set to expire this summer.

In turn, that leaves the door open for an exit and with Antonio Conte having already left the club, it could lead to some of his signings following suit.

According to the Daily Mail, Villa are keen on a swoop for the versatile veteran, although it’s added that both Watford and Burnley are also interested.

It’s suggested that Villa want to add experience to the squad this summer, while Young could be a very useful addition despite his age as he could offer vital depth in various roles given his ability to play as a full-back or in midfield.

Provided that his wage demands aren’t too high and fit within the parameters of what Villa are offering, it could be a sensible bit of business for Smith, having lost Ahmed Elmohamady and Neil Taylor this summer after their respective contracts expired.

Young made 190 appearances for Villa in his first spell with us, scoring 37 goals and providing 59 assists. He was undoubtedly one of our top players between 2007 and 2011, and while a lot has changed since both with the stalwart and the club, a reunion this summer might in fact end up suiting all parties.

Time will tell if the pieces fall into place for a deal to be done, but Young returning to Villa is seemingly a possibility in this transfer window and is certainly one to watch in the coming weeks.
