Aston Villa have officially announced that Emiliano Martinez has signed a new contract with the club, to extend his stay with us until 2029.
The 31-year-old joined us in September 2020, and he has since gone on to make 160 appearances for the club in what has been a memorable stint thus far.

Having helped us cement ourselves as a Premier League side again, the Argentine international played a pivotal role in our fourth-place finish in the Premier League last season, thus securing Champions League football this year.
His form at club level has also allowed him to establish himself for Argentina as he has gone on to win the World Cup and Copa America, and so it’s proven to be a great match for both parties.
As per the club’s official statement, Martinez has put pen to paper on a new contract that will keep him with us until 2029, and that is a massive boost for our future aspirations as we continue to build and make progress to become increasingly competitive under Unai Emery.
He also becomes the latest key figure to agree new terms to commit his long-term future to the club, and so we’ve got our core in place and can continue to build around them as we improve and strengthen in each transfer window.
In turn, while it’s brilliant news in itself that he has committed to us for the next five years to show his belief in our ongoing project, it’s also a statement on what we’re continuing to build at Villa, and it’s hopefully going to help us continue to attract elite level talent as we look to raise our level again this year and beyond.
Emery will undoubtedly be delighted as Martinez is a pillar of the side and the dressing room, and his quality, experience and leadership will be fundamental as we continue to take on new experiences and compete at the top level whilst continuing to mature and develop as a group.
