Villa ace continues treatment on injury but offers positive update

Aston Villa defender Alex Moreno offered another update on his recovery from injury this week, as things appear to be going well for the Spaniard thus far.

Moreno, 30, suffered a hamstring injury in our penultimate game of last season at Liverpool, with Unai Emery confirming that he underwent surgery and is expected to be sidelined for between three and four months.

That timeline would rule him out of pre-season and the start of the new Premier League campaign in early August, but it has been hoped that the Spaniard would recover quickly – and fully – to return ahead of schedule.

As per his update on Instagram below on Monday, Moreno revealed he is continuing his recovery work and is receiving ongoing treatment, but it looks positive given he posted photos and videos of himself taking part in events during his ‘Alex Moreno Camp’ in Catalonia.

While he wasn’t exactly doing sprints and an intense workout, Moreno did appear to be moving freely without the brace that he was pictured wearing at Bodymoor Heath just six days ago, and so it’s hoped that in itself is a significant sign of progress in his recovery and he remains on track.

Naturally, Villa will continue to monitor him closely and avoid rushing him back, but the Spanish ace will no doubt be itching to be involved in pre-season training and our fixture schedule, as he’ll hope to hit the ground running in his first full season with us.

For now, the expectation is that Lucas Digne will feature heavily in Moreno’s absence, but the pair will be competing for a starting berth next season as things stand, and given how impressive he was following his January arrival from Real Betis and how well he fit into our style and system, getting him back from this injury setback will be a huge boost for Emery.
