Aston Villa injury news: Diego Carlos concern, Cash and Coutinho updates

Aston Villa boss Steven Gerrard has conceded that he is worried about Diego Carlos after he suffered an injury in our win over Everton.

The Brazilian defender limped off in the latter stages of the 2-1 victory at Villa Park, and he wasn’t alone as Matty Cash and Philippe Coutinho also had to be replaced.

While the news was more positive on that pair, it doesn’t sound so good for Carlos, with Villa also posting their well wishes on a speedy recovery for him on the official Twitter account, as seen below.

“We’ll have to wait and see what the outcome is of Diego Carlos’s injury and why he’s gone off the pitch because I’m extremely worried about that situation,” Gerrard said after the game, as per BirminghamLive. “We’re going to send him for an MRI scan but it doesn’t look good right now so that might tarnish how I feel from a personal point of view because I’m extremely happy with the win and the performance but, if we happen to lose someone who’s so important to us, that could tarnish the win.

“Let’s not say it is just yet but I’m worried about it. It’s around the ankle, Achilles area. He’s felt an awkward mechanism in there. You can see by the player and the man that he’s not the type to go off easy. He looks concerned with it and the medical staff seem concerned and that’s the reason why I’m worried about it.”

The report adds that both Coutinho and Cash are expected to be available for the trip to Selhurst Park next weekend, with the pair seemingly struggling with cramp in the hot conditions this weekend.

However, should Villa now be without Carlos for an extended period of time, it would certainly be a blow as he has impressed in his opening two games since joining the club.

Gerrard will be happy with the level of depth and competition he has in that area of his squad with Tyrone Mings, Ezri Konsa and Calum Chambers on hand to fight for a starting spot still as well as Kortney Hause coming back from an injury of his own, but given Carlos was one of our marquee summer signings and a key part of the Villa boss’s plans this season, it’s hoped that he isn’t set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines.
