Aston Villa playmaker Emiliano Buendia has provided fresh insight into his recovery from the knee injury he suffered prior to the season.
The 26-year-old sustained the setback on the eve of the Premier League campaign back in August during a training session, and it’s unclear at this stage what timeline he’s targeting to make his return.

Having been an influential figure for Unai Emery after his appointment last November, the Argentine’s absence has been a loss, despite the fact that Villa have been so impressive thus far.
His comeback will be a significant boost in order to help us sustain our push and compete for major honours this season, and as the weeks and months pass, there arguably have been hints that he could be back before this campaign is over.
While we’ve regularly seen him celebrating with the squad after games over the past few weeks, his teammate Emiliano Martinez posted an update from the Bodymoor Heath gym on Saturday, as seen in the tweet below.
Buendia looks to be making real progress as he increases the workload on his knee having been in a walking boot and seen with a heavy limp previously, and he responded to Martinez’s post with the caption: “Let’s go, friend. Less to go.”
Naturally, that isn’t to suggest that he’s already closing in on a comeback as he’s yet to be seen working outside even on his own let alone with the rest of the group, and he’ll of course be steadily reintegrated with minutes at U21s level before he returns to the senior squad.
In turn, there are a number of checkpoints that he has yet to reach, but it’s great to see him continuing to work hard on his recovery and provide us with some insight on it, and it will certainly be a great moment when we’re able to welcome him back to the fold for the first time at Villa Park, whenever that may be.
