Boost for Villa as key figure provides update after injury scare

After coming off in the first half of our defeat to Newcastle Utd on Saturday, Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez has allayed fears over his head injury.

The 30-year-old suffered the blow to his head in the early stages of the game, and while it looked as though he should have come off after receiving treatment and yet still looked dazed, the Argentine international continued on.

However, it wasn’t long before he realised that something still wasn’t right and was replaced by Robin Olsen, leading to concerns over his health first and foremost, but also over his availability in the coming days.

Fortunately, Martinez has confirmed that it was just a scare and that he hasn’t suffered any lasting issues, and he has insisted that he will be ready to face Man Utd at Villa Park on Sunday afternoon, as per his tweet below.

Naturally, that will be subject to him passing any further concussion protocols if he displays any delayed symptoms, but it does sound positive in that any concerns that may have been spotted in the immediate aftermath of the incident have now cleared.

Not only is Martinez a fundamental figure in the side, but he will be desperate to be available for new boss Unai Emery who starts work on Tuesday, with that encounter with Man Utd being his first game at the helm.

The Villa Head Coach will want as close to a fully fit squad as possible at his disposal, particularly those who will be influential figures in his starting XI moving forward.

With Lucas Digne returning at the weekend and interim boss Aaron Danks confirming in his press conference last Friday that Boubacar Kamara is stepping up his recovery, it’s good news for the most part on the injury front for Villa with Diego Carlos the only long-term absentee.

In turn, it’s great news to hear Martinez is doing well and won’t miss any playing time.
