Aston Villa injury news: Ings, Targett double boost ahead of Liverpool clash

Aston Villa travel to Anfield to face Liverpool on Saturday and Steven Gerrard looks set to receive a double injury boost from Danny Ings and Matt Targett.

Villa will be looking to make it four wins in the last five since Gerrard took charge as we face a difficult trip to Merseyside this weekend, but confidence and belief has undoubtedly been rebuilt in recent weeks as we’ve returned to form.

Nevertheless, aside from the sentimental and emotional aspect of a return to his former club, Gerrard also faces a significant test going up against Jurgen Klopp as he looks to get the better of the Reds boss.

Time will tell if he is able to provide a strategy and gameplan that enables us to return home with a positive result, but he’ll seemingly be handed a double fitness boost for the encounter based on the images from training on Thursday.

As per the club’s update, both Ings and Targett were seen in training with the rest of the group, with the pair both missing the win over Leicester City last weekend due to a muscle and head injury respectively.

It’s no doubt a positive sign that they’ve resumed training and that would suggest that they will likely be available to Gerrard on Saturday, even if it is limited to the bench, but it certainly gives the Villa boss options that he will need moving forward given the hectic fixture schedule.

Trezeguet was also spotted in the same session as he continues his path to a full recovery from his long-term knee injury, but there was no sign of either Leon Bailey or Bertrand Traore, as they nurse issues that will sideline them for a little while longer.

Villa will be buoyed by our recent form, and it’s hoped that we can extend it this weekend with what would be a statement win over Liverpool.
