Aston Villa boss Unai Emery has provided an update on Jacob Ramsey after he missed our goalless draw with Everton due to a fresh injury concern.
The 22-year-old’s campaign has already been severely disrupted by injury, as he has been limited to 14 appearances across all competitions thus far, totalling 668 minutes of football.

Having appeared to be still working towards full fitness and sharpness in recent weeks as he searches for his best form, the last thing Ramsey needed was a new setback.
Unfortunately, Emery confirmed after our 0-0 draw at Goodison Park that the Villa ace did sustain an issue in training this week, and so the decision was made not to risk him, while we await further tests to determine if he faces another spell out.
“At the end of yesterday’s session he was not feeling very good with a pain in his hamstring,” Emery said, as per the Athletic’s Jacob Tanswell. “We decided not to take the risk with him. He will do a test to see how injured he is. Hopefully not long, but if he is, I hope it’s not a lot.”
Villa aren’t in action until January 26 now when we face Chelsea in the FA Cup, while we host Newcastle Utd in the Premier League four days later.
In turn, while there’s an important break where we can hopefully recover some of our injured players, with Pau Torres and Lucas Digne missing out this weekend too, it remains to be seen if those games will be a realistic comeback target for Ramsey too.
Having scored just one goal in those 14 outings with no assists, we’ve yet to see Ramsey at his most impactful and influential, and it will be a huge boost for us in the second half of the campaign if he’s able to rediscover that decisive touch in the coming weeks and months.
However, the focus for now will be on his recovery, and hopefully the choice to leave him out on Sunday was more precautionary than anything else, and we’ll see him back on the pitch at the end of the month.
