Key Villa figure confirms surgery and issues positive message

Aston Villa captain John McGinn has confirmed that he has undergone surgery after he suffered a knee injury earlier this month.

The 31-year-old sustained the setback in our defeat to Everton on January 18, and there has been a slight delay in confirming the severity of the issue and subsequently his recovery timeline as he sought further medical opinions.

However, he has now confirmed that he has had a procedure done, as per his social media post, and he has issued a positive message by insisting that he’ll “be back before you know it”.

It’s certainly hoped that is the case, but as per Unai Emery in his post-match press conference this past weekend following our win at Newcastle United, the Villa boss expects to be without the services of his skipper for up to two months as he recovers from his setback.

Combined with injury blows suffered by both Boubacar Kamara and Youri Tielemans, the former being ruled out for the rest of the season while the Belgian international is expected to now be sidelined longer than McGinn, Villa have been left incredibly light in midfield and it threatens to derail our brilliant campaign thus far.

However, as per speculation, Douglas Luiz is expected to return to the club in an important boost, and it will be imperative that he reaches the levels he showed in his first stint with us prior to moving to Juventus.

For McGinn though, we’ll need our influential captain back as soon as possible as he is fundamental in driving us forward and achieving success this season, while he will also be desperate to get back, prove his fitness and secure his place in the Scotland squad for the World Cup this summer.

Naturally, he would have made the best decision for him with that in mind, and hopefully he’ll play a key role in our push for silverware in the latter stages of the campaign.
