Aston Villa midfielder John McGinn has reportedly avoided a serious injury after suffering a setback in our pre-season win over BG Pathum United earlier this week.
The 31-year-old looked to have twisted his knee after a heavy challenge, and he was in visible pain before receiving treatment for several minutes on the pitch.
While he did walk off unaided and appeared to want to return to the game, Unai Emery quickly waved him down the tunnel to receive further treatment in the dressing room.

In turn, there was an anxious wait to determine whether or not he had suffered a serious issue or not, but according to BirminghamLive, Villa are said to be confident that the Scottish international hasn’t sustained a serious setback after undergoing a scan and further tests following the encounter.
It’s added that he will continue to be monitored, but there is positivity from the Villa camp that he won’t be sidelined for a prolonged period due to the problem.
Time will tell if it now rules McGinn out of our UEFA Super Cup clash with Paris Saint-Germain in Salzburg in a week’s time, as with the start of the Premier League campaign following shortly after, he won’t want to risk aggravating the problem and face a lengthier spell out.
Should he miss out though, that would be a blow for us as we look to add another piece of silverware to the collection, but it’s undoubtedly good news for now to hear that he hasn’t suffered a serious injury and we’ll await his return to action.
The Villa skipper has confirmed that he has travelled with the squad to Hong Kong for our pre-season friendly with Bayern Munich on Friday via social media, and so that should be taken as another positive sign as had it been more problematic, he would surely have been sent back to Bodymoor Heath for additional treatment.
