Aston Villa defender Pau Torres has provided an encouraging update on his recovery from a foot injury.
The 28-year-old suffered a broken metatarsal in our encounter with Brighton on December 30, and has been sidelined since as he undergoes his rehabilitation process.

While the blow of his absence has been exacerbated after Tyrone Mings also suffered a setback to leave us short in defence, there is no doubt over how influential Torres is for us in both phases of the game.
Since arriving at the club in 2023, the Spanish international has been integral to our progression under Unai Emery, and we’ve certainly missed his presence in the side over the past month-and-a-half.
We’ve anxiously waited for an update with Emery previously noting that the injury was likely to sideline Torres for around six to eight weeks, and it looks as though he could be moving closer to making his return with that touted timeline starting to line up.
As seen in the image below, the Villa centre-half posted a video on Instagram as he went through his personalised training drill in the gym at Bodymoor Heath, with his caption reading: “Getting closer!”
It’s hoped that his recovery continues smoothly now in the latter stages and he’ll be available again sooner rather than later, as we’ve got some crucial games coming up across the Premier League, Champions League and FA Cup.
Mings is expected back before him and so that will be a major boost too given Boubacar Kamara has been deputising as a temporary centre-back for us, but having Torres back for the final stretch of the season will not only be fundamental to our ability to improve in defence, but it will give the entire group a lift to have another key figure back in the mix.
