After receiving medical attention and trying to continue, the Egyptian international was emotional as he made his way down the tunnel at Anfield, seemingly already aware of the seriousness of the issue.

As per the club’s official site, Villa have now confirmed that Trezeguet suffered knee ligament damage and will undergo surgery.

Naturally, that is expected to now rule him out of the last eight games of the Premier League season, and it’s hoped that his operation and subsequent rehabilitation goes well to allow him to return to full fitness in time for the start of the new campaign.

Trezeguet bagged his first goals of the season after coming off the bench against Fulham in the previous game to score a brace in our 3-1 win, while he also has two assists in 22 appearances.

Dean Smith will now have to cope without him though, with skipper Jack Grealish also currently sidelined with a shin injury.

In turn, it remains to be seen who comes in to fill the void with the likes of Anwar El Ghazi and Ross Barkley perhaps close to the top of the pecking order given their experience, but the main thought for now is that Trezeguet hopefully makes a full and quick recovery from his setback.
