Aston Villa defender Tyrone Mings has provided a positive update on his injury recovery as his long-term absence continues.
The 31-year-old has been sidelined since our opening game of the season after suffering a serious knee injury in the early stages of our defeat at Newcastle Utd.

It’s been a gruelling nine months for the commanding Villa centre-half as he has gone through his rehabilitation and recovery process, but the positive updates continue to come as he steps up his work.
As seen in the images below taken from an Instagram story that he posted, Mings is now back working on the grass in an individual session, and although there is still a long way to go before he is back in contention to feature, it’s a significant milestone on his road to making a comeback.
Mings will be targeting a return to group training in the coming weeks and months, and that in turn will get him closer to getting minutes again, most probably at U21s level initially to get his match fitness and sharpness back.
The expectation at this stage is that we won’t see him play again this season as while he may not be medically cleared to do so anyway, there doesn’t appear to be any necessity to risk him now, and hopefully with a full pre-season under his belt, he’ll return as strong as he was prior to his injury at the start of the next campaign.
Nevertheless, for now, it’s great to see him back outside at Bodymoor Heath and being put through his paces, and along with Emiliano Buendia who suffered a similarly devastating setback in August, it’s a huge boost for Villa and Unai Emery to see them stepping up their respective recoveries and hopefully lifting the rest of the squad with their presence and progress at the training ground.
