Long-term Villa injury absentee continues hard work ahead of pre-season

Aston Villa defender Tyrone Mings is continuing his recovery work as he targets a return to action in our upcoming pre-season schedule.

The 31-year-old missed the entire season this past year after suffering a serious knee injury in our Premier League opener at Newcastle Utd last August.

Having been through a gruelling recovery process in the 10 months that have since passed, he has gradually made important progress and was back doing individual sessions at Bodymoor Heath towards the end of last season.

The expectation has been that not only would he not feature in the last campaign, but he would instead target this summer’s pre-season schedule as his comeback date as he looks to get invaluable minutes to rediscover his best condition and form while gaining match fitness and sharpness.

As seen in his latest Instagram post, the rehabilitation work doesn’t stop for the Villa centre-half, as he appears to be over in the USA again to continue his recovery with his trusted team.

Naturally, the hope is that he can come through the next few weeks unscathed, and then we’ll hopefully see him back involved with the squad in group sessions before making his comeback next month in one of our friendlies.

Emiliano Buendia similarly suffered a serious knee injury in the same week as Mings last year, but he appears to be slightly ahead in his recovery having joined his teammates for group training last month, and so it promises to be a massive boost for Unai Emery and all concerned to have those two back available in the new season.

The pair will face increased competition though following the arrivals of Pau Torres and Morgan Rogers, but as we look to compete on multiple fronts year in and year out and challenge for major honours, it will be fundamental to have a healthy squad with plenty of options for Emery to utilise as and when needed.
