Injured Villa ace provides insight into recovery so far after serious setback

Aston Villa defender Tyrone Mings has finally provided an update on his recovery from the injury he sustained on the opening weekend.

The 30-year-old was stretchered off after just 31 minutes against Newcastle United in our first game of the Premier League season in August, and initial concerns were soon confirmed as he underwent knee surgery.

Although no official timeline has been provided, the expectation is that Mings will be ruled out for the entire season, and our concern and fear over the seriousness of the blow has been amplified by his silence through the process thus far.

In contrast to Emiliano Buendia, who also suffered a serious knee injury around the same time but has provided consistent updates on social media as he recovers, Mings has opted to go about his rehabilitation work away from the spotlight.

That hasn’t stopped countless messages of support come flooding in for the commanding Villa centre-half, and that was something he highlighted in his video posted below.

“I just wanted to start things off by saying thank you so much for all the messages that people have sent me,” he narrated in the video. “I’ve read pretty much every single one, cards, gifts in the post, tweets, everything has been so appreciated & has helped me through this early stage and I just want to share a few bits of what I’ve been up to. Hopefully it gives you a bit of an insight into what the early stage looks like for a long-term injury.”

It’s a relief to see Mings provide insight as there were fears that it might be a career-defining setback given he had revealed earlier in the day that he was going to offer an update into his recovery, which in turn sparked speculation over his future.

He’s evidently putting the hard work in, and hopefully he remains on track thus far, continues to come through unscathed as the rehabilitation process progresses and he can return as strong as he was prior to the injury blow.

Villa have been fortunate in that Pau Torres has stepped up in his absence and formed a solid partnership with Ezri Konsa in the heart of the Villa defence so far this season, with Diego Carlos coming in and impressing too.

However, there is no doubt over how important Mings is for us both on and off the pitch, and although we’ll seemingly have to make do without him for some time yet, it’s great to see that he’s making progress through the early recovery work and he’ll hopefully be ready to return over the summer heading into next season.
