Aston Villa have reportedly rejected an offer worth £20m plus Giovani Lo Celso from Tottenham for Jacob Ramsey.
Our PSR concerns have been well documented for some time, and ahead of the June 30 financial year deadline to balance our books and ensure that we don’t risk a sanction, we’ve seen Tim Iroegbunam leave to join Everton, while both Douglas Luiz and Omari Kellyman are expected to follow imminently.

In turn, that has seemingly allayed any fears that we had from a financial perceptive, with The Athletic reporting that our focus has now switched to improving Unai Emery’s squad further.
Nevertheless, as per Matt Maher of the Express and Star, Tottenham have attempted to prise Ramsey away with an offer of £20m plus Lo Celso in a cash plus player exchange deal, but that has been rejected by Villa.
He adds that Villa have no interest in selling Ramsey this summer as he remains a key figure for Emery, and so it’s hoped that they, nor any other club, return with an improved offer and we see Ramsey play a fundamental role in our progress next season and beyond.
The 23-year-old was restricted to just 21 appearances across all competitions last season due to injury, contributing just one goal and two assists in those outings.
However, after Emery’s arrival in October 2022, Ramsey flourished along with many of his teammates, and so he certainly has an important pre-season ahead of him this summer to get back to peak fitness and hopefully rediscover his best form going into the new campaign.
After coming through our Academy, there is of course also a closer connection between Ramsey and the Villa fanbase, and given the potential he has and the quality he’s shown up to now, there is real hope that he kicks on to become a top-level player for years to come.
Time will tell if we come under pressure to sell again in the future and Ramsey may well be the one that must be sacrificed given the nature of the relegations and the ‘pure profit’ of selling a homegrown player. For now though, it sounds as though he won’t be going anywhere this summer transfer window.
