Talks ongoing as Villa loanee could extend his stint away from club

Norwich City have confirmed that talks are ongoing with Aston Villa over the possibility of extending Lewis Dobbin’s loan spell with the club.

Villa signed the 22-year-old from Everton last summer, but he has spent the current campaign out on loan with West Bromwich Albion initially, before joining Norwich in January.

His time at Carrow Road proved to be more productive compared to his stint at the Hawthorns, as he scored two goals in 11 appearances for the Canaries.

It seem as though he did enough to impress the club, as Norwich have confirmed on their official site that discussions are ongoing between them, Villa and Dobbin over the possibility of extending his loan deal into next season.

Time will tell if the Villa hierarchy feel as though that’s the best option for both the player and club, as ultimately another season in the Championship would benefit Dobbin’s development, provided he plays a prominent role for Norwich next year and builds on the six months he’s had with them thus far.

That said, in a summer where we may well need sales to balance our books and fund our own spending, he would arguably be one of the top candidates to be moved on, albeit that would ultimately depend on whether or not the interest in him is there, and if sufficient offers arrived.

In turn, it remains to be seen if the ongoing talks result in a fresh agreement between the two clubs or not, but what is clear at this stage is that Dobbin is unlikely to break into the Villa first-team at this stage given the competition for places in the current squad, and so if a permanent option isn’t available, Villa must pick the best possible landing spot for him to thrive, and that could be with Norwich in a familiar environment.
