Aston Villa defender Lucas Digne has provided another update on his recovery from injury, and it appears to be good news for Unai Emery.
The 30-year-old posted on social media on Tuesday as he insisted that he wasn’t taking any days off as he continues to work his way back from a hamstring injury that he suffered against Man Utd on Boxing Day.

As per Emery in his pre-match press conference for Burnley at the end of last month, the Villa boss noted that Digne was likely to be sidelined by the issue for around 20-25 days, and so his return would have been pencilled in for the end of January, or perhaps early February in terms of making an actual comeback.
It appears as though the French international is making great progress, as seen in the image he posted below on Wednesday, as he appears to be back on the grass at Bodymoor Heath in an important step up in his recovery work.
Naturally, it’s worth noting that he doesn’t appear to be involved in a group training session and so that will be an eventual vital checkpoint that will indicate he’s on the verge of being in contention again, but the fact that he’s outside and going through a personalised session already certainly suggests that he’s on the right track.
Digne has featured 26 times already this season, and although Alex Moreno is back from his own injury problem and looks to be solidifying his place in the Villa XI again, it’s fundamental that we have that competition and cover at left-back moving forward.
Villa have only three more games to be played in January, but the schedule will soon become more hectic and that squad depth will be pivotal in our push to sustain our great first half of the season and continue to compete at the top level in the coming months.
While many fans will perhaps argue in favour of Moreno cementing his spot as our first-choice option at left-back given what he adds to the team in both phases of the game, Digne showed through the first half of the campaign that he is a really effective option too, and so it’s hoped that we’ll see him return on time at the end of January, with either the Newcastle Utd or Sheffield Utd game targeted for his comeback.
