Villa close in on key deals as trio on verge of sealing moves

Aston Villa are reportedly now on the verge of announcing three new signings as Ian Maatsen, Enzo Barrenechea and Samuel Iling Jr are all set to join us.

Reports have been ongoing over the past fortnight about our swap deal with Juventus as well as our swoop for Maatsen, but the wait has continued for an official announcement to confirm the moves.

While Villa sold Tim Iroegbunam to Everton last week as we continue to address our PSR concerns before the end of June, it appears as though there could be a flurry of activity to end the week.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Barrenechea and Iling Jr have now passed their medicals, as has Douglas Luiz, who will move in the opposite direction to join Juventus, and the clubs are now set to formalise the agreement which will see Villa also receive €28m in addition to the two players in exchange.

Time will tell just how soon the announcement comes from the club, but the suggestion from this latest update is that it could now be imminent as we prepare to bid farewell to Luiz.

Meanwhile, Romano also adds that Maatsen has signed his contract with us, and so with all three incomings all-but sealed, we’re merely now waiting for official confirmation.

It’s an exciting time for Villa fans as ultimately despite the disappointment of losing Luiz and having to sacrifice some of our top younger talents to balance our books and stay within PSR parameters, the expectation is that Unai Emery will get the opportunity to significantly improve his squad this summer.

Barrenechea and Iling Jr add competition and depth, while given their potential, they could flourish into key figures for us with the benefit of the coaching they’ll receive from Emery and his staff.

Coupled with the €28m fee we’re said to be receiving, that will put to bed those PSR issues for now, and hopefully give us increased spending power and flexibility in the months ahead as we look to improve the squad where possible.

As for Maatsen, the Dutchman will be a long-term solution at left-back as he looks to have a big future ahead of him, and with his qualities and attributes, he’ll hopefully prove to be an excellent fit for Emery’s style and system.
