Aston Villa to face Man Utd in third round of Carabao Cup

Aston Villa have been drawn to face Man Utd at Old Trafford in the third round of the Carabao Cup.

After successfully seeing off Bolton in a 4-1 win on Tuesday night, Villa were in the hat for the third round draw on Wednesday and were handed an all too familiar tie.

As per the club’s official site, Villa will travel to Old Trafford to take on Man Utd, in a fixture that has been played on countless occasions in the cup competitions in recent years and there will now be another instalment added in a couple of months time.

Having won at the Theatre of Dreams last season in the Premier League and with some encouraging performances against the Red Devils in recent times, Steven Gerrard will no doubt take his Villa side into that encounter with confidence, but it will certainly be a difficult task as Erik Ten Hag will no doubt be keen to remain in the hunt for silverware in his first year in charge.

It’s added in the report above that the tie will take place in the week commencing Monday November 7, and so Villa will wait for confirmation of a fixture date and whether or not it will be televised.

A lot can change between now and that tie, with Gerrard and Villa no doubt hoping to string some results together and build confidence and belief in the squad again.

Nevertheless, it will be a challenge that will require us to be at our best on the night and it will be a difficult task to advance to the next round. That said, it’s a test that the players should relish, and given how strong our line up was against Bolton, there’s little doubt that Gerrard will do the same for this one.
