Speculation has been rife this week over Alemany’s arrival at the club, with Barcelona confirming in an official statement that he would be moving on this summer.

According to Fabrizio Romano, a full agreement is now in place between Villa and the 60-year-old for him to become club director, and all that is left is for him to sign his contract and the appointment to be officially announced.

It’s added that Alemany has accepted all clauses put forward, and that he is already working together with Unai Emery to identify transfer targets for the summer with names in La Liga and beyond on their shortlist.

Should that appointment now be confirmed as expected, it’s another exciting and promising step forward in our strategy and vision to become increasingly competitive, both on and off the pitch.

Emery has another key, influential figure at the club who he will look to work closely with to achieve our objectives moving forward, and Alemany of course brings plenty of experience and knowledge given his previous roles.

While we’ll naturally have to wait and judge the job that they do in the coming years, the appointment in itself in another clear indication of the ambition and mentality of the club’s hierarchy to be more competitive, and it’s undoubtedly a key piece in the strategy to make our structure stronger off the pitch to operate at a higher level.

It’s now hoped that all the details will be confirmed and an official announcement arrives sooner rather than later, as although Barcelona noted in their statement that Alemany will complete his job through until the summer, it’s important that he also gets the opportunity to work closely with Emery now to get our plans for the transfer window firmly underway.
