Aston Villa’s President of Football Operations, Monchi, is reportedly set to leave the club in a crucial new development.
The 57-year-old was appointed in 2023 and has had a pivotal role at the club since, working alongside Unai Emery to improve the squad while also balancing significant financial restrictions.

It’s no secret how important a figure he is considered by the Villa boss given that they’ve also worked together previously, but as per The Athletic, Monchi is now set to leave the club.
While some will question how successful he has been in the recruitment process over the past two years as there has been scrutiny over our business, it has ultimately been Emery leading the charge, with his trusted figures around him doing their best to accommodate his needs.
Additionally, the financial limitations have been severe in terms of being compliant with PSR and UEFA’s regulations, and so it hasn’t been an easy task for the hierarchy.
Nevertheless, this could be a worrying development depending on the reasoning behind the decision, which hasn’t yet been made clear in the reporting.
If it’s Monchi’s choice on a personal level, then it’s hoped that we ultimately have a plan in place to replace him with another top figure who will be able to work closely with Emery in helping us continue to make progress.
However, if it’s a decision made by the Villa ownership or if Monchi is leaving for other reasons relating to the position, then there will be concern over the knock-on effect it might have given how close-knit the current management infrastructure is.
Further, given it comes at a time when we’re struggling on the pitch, it’s a delicate moment for Villa with things seemingly starting to unravel, and so it will be crucial to understand the reason for this latest development, and it’s hoped that it doesn’t have an impact on the pitch in our upcoming games.
