Villa chief spotted on scouting mission as touted pursuit of top talent intensifies

Aston Villa’s President of Football Operations, Monchi, is reportedly on a scouting mission this week to watch top Rosenborg talent Sverre Nypan.

The 18-year-old has emerged as one of the most sought-after young talents in Europe after scoring 14 goals and providing 11 assists in 62 appearances for the Norwegian side, having come through their youth ranks and continued to impress.

Capped at U21 level for Norway, the midfielder has been paired with a move to Villa in recent weeks, and that speculation over his potential next move is likely to increase amid reports from Norway on Monday.

As per Nettavisen, Monchi has travelled to watch Rosenborg’s encounter with Valerenga along with scout Alberto Benito, and although he didn’t confirm the exact reason for his visit when speaking to the media outlet at his hotel, it’s seemingly quite clear that it involves Nypan.

It’s noted that the top prospect has reportedly chosen Villa as his next club, albeit there is no official agreement in place as things stand, but with the Villa representatives said to have met with his father prior to the game, it seems as though we’re tightening our grip on securing the Norwegian youngster’s signature in what would be an exciting coup for the club.

Naturally, until there is an official agreement or announcement, it remains to be seen if Villa can indeed reach a deal, but with so much excitement and expectation surrounding Nypan’s future, it could prove to be quite the signing as part of our long-term planning as we look to fend off plenty of touted interest from elsewhere.

It would be a continuation of the transfer strategy we’ve seen implemented since the arrival of Monchi, Unai Emery and others, as we’re not only trying to build for immediate progress and success, but there is a long-term vision in place too both from a sporting and business perspective.

Time will tell if Nypan will form part of that process by joining Villa this summer, but based on the reporting above and Monchi’s trip, it would certainly indicate that we’re serious about acquiring him and bolstering our squad further.
