Aston Villa playmaker Morgan Rogers is on the verge of completing his move to Chelsea having now signed his contract and undergone his medical.
The 23-year-old has played a pivotal role in our success since joining us in January 2024, as he immediately emerged as a decisive option for Unai Emery both through his goal contributions and overall influence in our attacking play.

Having continued to improve and develop during that time, it’s been a short but productive stint together as he helped us secure Champions League football again last season, while we ended our trophy drought on a memorable night in Istanbul in May.

However, that appears to be the end of his journey in a Villa shirt, as Fabrizio Romano reports that the England international has now put pen to paper on a six-year contract with Chelsea, having undergone his medical ahead of his switch to Stamford Bridge on Monday morning and passed it, as per Ben Jacobs.
Importantly though, he has shared a key detail on the transfer, as he suggests that Chelsea will pay a £117m fixed fee without any add-ons included to Villa, and so that’s a fully guaranteed figure which is a huge financial boost in terms of not waiting to determine if certain criteria are met to trigger future payments.
Naturally, it’s a critical fee in settling any lingering issues we had in relation to being in compliance with both domestic and UEFA financial regulations, while it’s possible that it will also now fund our spending for the remainder of the transfer window as we continue to try and strengthen Unai Emery’s squad.
While no one wanted to lose another key figure in the current group after Youri Tielemans left earlier this month as Villa want to build on the foundations set over the past three seasons and keep improving, this deal seemingly makes a lot of sense.
Such is our financial position, sales are to be expected to balance our books and reduce our wage bill, but through the signings of Johan Manzambi and Joao Gomes so far this summer, our recruitment looks to be operating at a high level to ensure that we can keep moving forward and progressing.
It will be sad to see Rogers go, but the focus will no doubt soon switch to who we bring in to bolster our attacking options.
