Interest shown by PL rivals in Villa star who is key to Emery’s future plans

Aston Villa reportedly face the threat of interest from Arsenal in Morgan Rogers, but it would take a significant transfer fee to convince us to sell.

The 22-year-old has been a revelation since arriving from Middlesbrough in January 2024, as after an impressive first six months at the club, he went on to contribute 14 goals and 15 assists in 54 appearances across all competitions last season.

Beyond the numbers though, Rogers has shown his ability to be a fundamental cog in how Unai Emery wants his team to play, with his physicality, speed, energy and technical ability making him a threatening presence in the attacking third, while he has the versatility to play right across the frontline.

Ideally, Villa wouldn’t even have to worry about the possibility of losing Rogers this summer, and the likelihood is that we won’t as the club will surely look to offload others before we get to a situation where we might listen to offers for our biggest talent, but according to The Times, Arsenal have added the talented forward to their list of possible transfer targets this summer.

It’s added in the report that it would take a major offer to make Villa even consider selling the England international, and coupled with the fact that he signed a new deal at the back-end of last year to commit his future to us until June 2030, we’re undoubtedly in a very strong position when it comes to keeping hold of him or worst-case scenario, demanding an eye-watering fee to consider an exit.

Unfortunately, we are under pressure to sell before June 30 to ensure that we comply with PSR as well as UEFA’s SCR regulations, but the difference to be made up to balance our books and avoid being sanctioned isn’t that drastic that it needs the sale of one of our leading figures for the foreseeable future.

Villa may well have to sacrifice a top player to also raise funds for our own spending moving forward, but given the development and improvement that Rogers has enjoyed under Emery, he will surely not want to walk away from that, while the Villa boss will undoubtedly be hopeful that he gets the opportunity to continue to take his game forward and remain a pivotal part of our future plans for years to come.
