Contract talks touted for influential Villa figure after key impact

Aston Villa are reportedly in talks with Morgan Rogers to try and reach an agreement over a new contract extension.

The 22-year-old has made a brilliant impact since joining us from Middlesbrough in January, and while his tallies of five goals and four assists in 28 appearances thus far are impressive, they certainly don’t tell the entire story.

Rogers has become an influential piece in Unai Emery’s plans and a great fit for the structure and system that the Villa boss has implemented, and in turn he has been a stand-out performer on a consistent basis since arriving having broken into the starting line-up earlier than expected and not looked back.

While there are naturally still areas of his game that must improve, Villa undoubtedly know the talent that they have on their hands, and as per The Athletic, the club have now opened talks with Rogers over signing a new contract extension that will include a salary increase to reflect his importance in the team.

Given he signed a five-and-a-half-year deal at the start of the year, it’s a huge indication of just how valuable and key to Emery he is, and should an agreement be reached, it will be another great piece of business from Villa after also securing Jhon Duran’s long-term future last month.

As for Rogers though, the hope is that he simply goes from strength to strength under Emery, as his ability to be a driving force in our attacking play through his positional and tactical awareness and intelligence in conjunction with his physical attributes, makes his signing look like a genius move from the club.

He’ll be the first to concede that he must still become more clinical in front of goal as he gets in all the right positions but is still lacking that killer instinct at times, and so potentially off the back of the boost of having signed a new deal, we’ll see him continue to improve and develop and reach higher heights at Villa.

He also forms part of the bigger picture as when you consider Jacob Ramsey’s ceiling and the quality around them, Villa have assembled an excellent squad that will hopefully only get better, and Rogers will be an integral part of that moving forward.
