Initial talks held as Villa keen to secure key figure’s future with new contract

Aston Villa are reportedly in preliminary talks with Morgan Rogers over a potential new contract to secure his long-term future at the club.

The 23-year-old joined us from Middlesbrough in January 2024 and has gone on to make an excellent impact, contributing 17 goals and 16 assists in 70 appearances.

Beyond those numbers though, he has proven to be a brilliant fit for Unai Emery’s system and style of play, and his ability to adapt, improve and develop his game to make the most of his talent and potential thus far, has been one of the biggest positives in our recent progress.

Although his current contract runs until June 2030, The Athletic report that Villa are keen to renew his deal and preliminary talks have been held, with a view of hopefully reaching an agreement towards the end of the summer.

Not only is a new agreement likely to reward Rogers for his influence over the past 18 months, but it will hopefully strengthen our position when it comes to fending off interest from elsewhere and keeping him at the club, and so much like the recent news of Boubacar Kamara putting pen to paper on a new deal, this would be a huge boost for all concerned if Villa are able to get it over the line.

The England international has thrived under Emery and will hopefully continue to take his game to the next level in the upcoming campaign, as he will undoubtedly have a crucial role to play as we once again look to compete on multiple fronts, qualify for the Champions League and hopefully win silverware.

Combined with the likes of Ollie Watkins, Jacob Ramsey, John McGinn, Youri Tielemans and Kamara, Villa have a settled and impressive attacking and midfield unit, and while it arguably doesn’t necessarily need a new contract to reiterate the point, Rogers is a fundamental part of that moving forward as we’ll demand more from him as he continues to mature and fulfil his potential, and penning a new deal would certainly indicate his commitment to the club and project for the foreseeable future.
