Aston Villa are reportedly going to miss out on the signing of top young talent Sverre Nypan as Manchester City are said to be closing in on a deal.
The 18-year-old has attracted plenty of attention very early in his career having emerged as one of the top young prospects in Europe through his form with Rosenborg and at youth level for Norway.

Having bagged 14 goals and 11 assists in 70 appearances for the first-team at Rosenborg, coupled with his impact and influence overall in games, it’s easy to see why so many clubs from around Europe have been eager to secure his signature as he embarks on the next step of his career.
Villa’s President of Football Operations, Monchi, travelled to Norway earlier this year to watch Nypan in action and held talks with the player’s father in a bid to convince them that we were the best project for him to join, and the reporting around that time was largely positive in that our pursuit could prove to be fruitful.
However, according to The Athletic, Man City are now close to reaching an agreement to sign him, and the expectation is that he will join them with Villa now set to miss out and be forced to look elsewhere.
If accurate, it’s certainly a shame from our perspective, as not only is Nypan an exciting talent with a potentially very bright future ahead of him, but evidently Monchi and our recruitment team put a lot of effort into trying to sign him, and to come up short will be a disappointment for them.
It’s unclear as to what the specific reasons were as to why we couldn’t get the deal done, but it’s frustrating to see that having delved into a different market as we continue to scout and identity talented youngsters with real potential, that we still face the threat of being outdone by our direct rivals who have the financial backing and established position to beat us to such signings.
Villa will undoubtedly have many more names on our transfer shortlist for this summer and so it’s hoped that we end up with reinforcements who prove over time to be even better fits for us, but for now, the focus is seemingly on selling and balancing our books ahead of the PSR deadline on June 30.
