Aston Villa are reportedly close to finalising a deal which will send Aaron Ramsey to Burnley, with talks said to be down to the ‘final details’.
The 20-year-old was a key figure for Villa at youth level, playing a leading role in our FA Youth Cup success in 2021 before impressing on loan last season.

Spells with Norwich City and Middlesbrough showed the talent and potential that he possesses, and Unai Emery included him in his pre-season plans this summer before an injury cut Ramsey’s involvement short.
With the hope that he will eventually link up with older brother Jacob in the Villa first-team, it appears as though his career path is taking him elsewhere for now, as The Athletic report that his move to Burnley is now down to the ‘final details’, with personal terms and a buy-back clause set to be agreed upon in the coming days.
It has previously been reported by journalist Alan Nixon that the transfer could be worth around £12m, while he also insisted that a buy-back clause would be included, thus giving Villa the opportunity to bring Ramsey back if he were to impress for the newly-promoted Premier League side.
Admittedly, there is a sense of disappointment that he could be set to leave as there is no guarantee that he will return, while there was a hope that he would be the next Villa youngster to make a breakthrough at senior level and shine under Emery.
However, with the transfer fee providing an important financial boost given it’s pure profit on a youth product for FFP purposes, similar to Carney Chukwuemeka’s departure last year, it also gives Ramsey an opportunity to play Premier League football and prove he belongs at this level. In turn, it could work out perfectly in the long-term from a Villa perspective with that buy-back clause to give us the option to re-sign him for a pre-agreed, and hopefully sensible, price.
Time will tell how the situation plays out, but based on the report above, it certainly does sound as though the move is likely to go through, and so it will be interesting to see if that sparks further activity from us in terms of more incomings this summer.
