Villa braced as rivals tipped to step up pursuit of decisive figure

Aston Villa are reportedly set to face increased interest in Morgan Rogers from Arsenal, as talk of an exit starts to build once again.

The 23-year-old has been a pivotal figure since arriving from Middlesbrough in January 2024, as he’s scored 31 goals and provided 29 assists in 125 appearances.

Beyond the numbers, he has become instrumental in Unai Emery’s system and style of play, and has undoubtedly played a major role in our progression and success over the past couple of seasons.

In turn, losing him this summer would be a massive setback, and according to Fabrizio Romano, Arsenal are set to accelerate their pursuit of the England international as he remains their top transfer target.

Further, he suggests that talks are already at an advanced stage on personal terms, and so it remains to be seen what fee Villa can negotiate as it will be significant given his age, quality and future potential.

Having already lost Youri Tielemans this summer, seeing Rogers leave as well would certainly hurt, but with Villa expected to complete the signings of Johan Manzambi and Joao Gomes in the coming days, it has to be said that our recruitment looks to be excellent thus far if those deals go through.

With that in mind, if Rogers were to leave, that hefty fee would no doubt go towards strengthening the squad further as we still require reinforcements in a few positions, and so while it would be disheartening to lose another key player, there is also a sense of excitement over what this rebuild and start of a new cycle under Emery could look like.

Certainly from the report above, it sounds as though Rogers is at least open to the idea of a move to Arsenal, and so if that is indeed the case, it’s fundamental that Villa get the best fee possible for him, and that in turn allows us to address any financial concerns for this year, and continue to build a squad capable of taking us up another level and continuing to compete for silverware.

There’s still a lot of untapped potential with Rogers and so it would be so disappointing to see him leave at this stage of his career, but we’re seeing Villa’s efficiency in the summer transfer window already, and that gives off confidence that we can cope with the loss of our attacking ace.
