Agreement touted as Villa close in on top target in loan swoop

Aston Villa have reportedly reached an agreement with Chelsea to sign defender Axel Disasi on loan for the rest of the season.

The 26-year-old joined Chelsea from Monaco in 2023 and has since gone on to make 61 appearances for the club.

According to the Daily Telegraph’s Matt Law, after heavy speculation linking Villa with a swoop for the defensive ace, an agreement has finally been reached between the two clubs over a loan deal until the end of the season.

It’s a crucial breakthrough as adding a centre-half was pivotal ahead of the transfer deadline, and given Villa and Unai Emery had seemingly prioritised Disasi as the ideal reinforcement for the past week or so, it looks as though we’ve finally got our top target.

After Diego Carlos departed last month and with both Tyrone Mings and Pau Torres currently sidelined by injury, we’ve been left with Ezri Konsa as our only available senior centre-half.

While the injured duo will hopefully return towards the end of this month or in the early part of March, Villa are looking to compete across multiple fronts in the coming months, and competition and depth was certainly needed to ensure we had enough cover.

According to The Athletic, it’s a straight loan move for the Frenchman worth £5m, and as has been reported throughout our pursuit, Disasi was always keen on joining us despite interest from elsewhere.

It’s hoped that the deal is now finalised ahead of the transfer deadline, as that would wrap up an excellent window for Villa as we’ve strengthened and improved in key areas of the squad.

While Carlos, Jaden Philogene, Jhon Duran have departed and a string of players have left on loan, we’ve brought in Donyell Malen, Andres Garcia, Marcus Rashford, Marco Asensio and hopefully now Disasi.

In turn, Emery has continued to mould the squad into his own, and hopefully it leads to a strong finish to the campaign with Premier League, Champions League and FA Cup objectives still to be achieved.
