Signing confirmed as Villa land top young talent for significant touted fee

Aston Villa have confirmed the signing of talented young striker Brian Madjo from FC Metz, in a deal said to be worth around £10m.

The 16-year-old has made his breakthrough with the Ligue 1 side this season, making five appearances at senior level after making a positive impression as a youth player, while he’s bagged three goals in seven caps for England U17s and has represented Luxembourg too.

As per the club’s official statement, we have now completed a transfer to sign him, pending international clearance, and so he becomes the latest top talent to be snapped up.

As per Matt Maher, Villa have made a significant investment in him given the transfer fee involved is said to be £10m, and so evidently our scouting and recruitment team have seen something that they like in Madjo, and time will tell whether that’s as a key part of our future plans, or as a possible savvy investment where we can make a healthy profit on that figure in the years to come.

It’s certainly a continuation of a transfer strategy that we’ve seen for some time now with Alysson arriving from Gremio earlier this month as President of Football Operations, Roberto Olabe, seemingly makes his presence and influence felt with our recruitment drive, but it’s hoped that these additions prove to be successful in one form or another, ideally as part of our first-team squad moving forward.

Villa are expected to do further business this month, both in terms of incomings and outgoings, as Emery looks to strengthen his squad for the short-term future as well as long term, and so it will be fascinating to see what the plan is for Madjo in the more immediate future, as there is a question mark over whether he will remain at the club and continue his development in-house, or if a loan switch for the remainder of the campaign is the smarter move.
