Aston Villa have reportedly been in talks for months to sign PSG midfielder Carlos Soler, and those discussions are said to be progressing ahead of the summer.
The 27-year-old joined the Ligue 1 giants from Valencia in 2022, and he has since gone on to make 61 appearances for the club, scoring seven goals and providing eight assists.

It hasn’t been a particularly stand-out year this though as Soler has been limited to just 26 appearances across all competitions, and it appears as though his time in the French capital could be coming to an end after this season.
According to L’Equipe, it’s reported that Villa are progressing in talks to sign the Spaniard after months of contact already, and so it remains to be seen if an agreement can be reached between the two clubs and on personal terms with the player, with the summer transfer window fast approaching.
While his stint at PSG hasn’t perhaps reached the levels hoped for, 36 goals and 31 assists in 226 outings for Valencia prior to his switch to France would suggest that he certainly possesses real quality, and it just hasn’t been the best fit for him in Paris.
Further, as with any target that is ultimately signed by Villa, it will be done so following a meticulous scouting assessment from our recruitment staff, while it will be a deal completed with Unai Emery’s backing based on whether or not the player in question is an ideal fit both for our squad and the style of play he’s implementing at the club.
If the Villa boss considers Soler a player who can significantly improve us, and there is mounting evidence now that Emery can get the best out of players at his disposal at Villa given what he’s done over the past 18 months or so, then it will be a move that is backed to be a success.
Given our injury woes this season as well, the central midfield area of the Villa squad could certainly do with more competition and depth as we look to become increasingly competitive on multiple fronts – including the Champions League next year – and so it will be interesting to see if these touted talks to sign Soler, ultimately end with a deal materialising to sign him.
