Aston Villa transfer news: Double Chelsea swoop for Abraham, Loftus-Cheek eyed

Aston Villa are reportedly considering a double swoop on Chelsea this summer with Tammy Abraham and Ruben Loftus-Cheek said to be on our transfer radar.

Villa boss Dean Smith will hope to strengthen his squad where possible ahead of next season, as we look to build on our progress in the last campaign and kick on to compete for a European spot.

In order to do that, we’ll need the current group to continue to improve and develop, but also to bring in reinforcements to raise the quality level and add competition and depth as we look to improve on our 11th-place finish in the Premier League this past year.

According to the Daily Star, Villa have set their sights on both Abraham and Loftus-Cheek, with the emphasis this summer arguably on bolstering our attacking options given our reliance on Jack Grealish and Ollie Watkins.

It’s added that Villa could offer £30m+ for Abraham, who we know well of course after his previously successful loan spell with us as he fired us back into the Premier League, while it’s noted that any swoop for Loftus-Cheek would be on an initial loan deal.

Given the pair are seemingly set to struggle to break into the Chelsea side next season under Thomas Tuchel as there is fierce competition for places at Stamford Bridge, exits certainly could be on the cards for both players.

However, time will tell whether or not Villa are ready to splash out over £30m for Abraham when it’s creativity that needs to be added to the team over an out-and-out goalscorer, while there could arguably be better options on the market this summer than Loftus-Cheek given his issues with form and injuries over the years.

It remains to be seen how the situation plays out, but Villa will no doubt hope to get as much of our business done as soon as possible, giving any new recruits the maximum amount of time to prepare and settle in their new surroundings over the summer.
