While it’s been reported that Aston Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz is being monitored by a number of clubs, any interest should be rebuffed such is his importance.
The 25-year-old now has six goals in 14 appearances so far this season as he closes in on eclipsing his tally from last year already, albeit he’s not quite as creative in the final third in this campaign having registered six assists last season while he’s yet to provide his first this year.

Nevertheless, his importance to Unai Emery and the way he wants his Villa side to play continues to grow, and he has become a highly influential piece in our midfield to dictate and control games in the way that the Villa boss demands.
His technical ability, vision, passing range and tactical intelligence have made him a pillar of this Villa team, and so although interest from elsewhere has been touted, the expectation is that it won’t go very far at all.
As per Fabrizio Romano, ‘many top clubs’ are monitoring the Brazilian ace, but given he continues to establish himself as a fundamental figure in Emery’s plans, it seems highly unlikely that any offer will even be entertained at this point and so those touted clubs can continue to monitor as much as they want.
Villa did bring in Youri Tielemans this past summer to add competition and depth, but the drop off when Luiz isn’t involved continues to reemphasis how important he is for us now.
With his current contract running until June 2026, having signed an extension in October last year, Villa are in a strong position to fend off interest if it becomes more serious, but Luiz himself continues to give the impression that he’s settled and very happy at the club and will be a driving force in our progression moving forward.
It’s to be expected in some ways that given we’re impressing and gaining more attention off the back of it that speculation will come with that, but there is very little doubt that Luiz is fully focused on Villa and helping us continue our fine start to the campaign.
