Aston Villa continue to be linked with a move for River Plate’s Julian Alvarez and it’s suggested that we will offer €17m to sign the Argentina international.
Alvarez, 21, has been on international duty with Argentina this summer for the Copa America, having bagged four goals and seven assists in 20 appearances at senior level for his club.

To have broken into the national side at such a young age shows that he has quality and potential, and it appears as though Villa are in the hunt for his signature this summer.
As reported by Tyc Sports in Argentina, Villa are expected to launch a bid of around €17m for Alvarez, although we could face strong competition with Ajax and AC Milan also being paired with an interest in the talented youngster.
It’s suggested that Alvarez has a €25m release clause with River Plate, and so it remains to be seen whether or not they’re willing to lower their demands and are open to reaching an agreement to sell their prized asset in the coming weeks.
Villa have added to the South American contingent this summer already with the signing of Emiliano Buendia, with Emiliano Martinez, Douglas Luiz and Wesley already at the club.
In turn, it remains to be seen if we continue to strengthen the squad with players from that market, with the report certainly suggesting that we’re making our move to bring Alvarez to England.
It would be another exciting addition to strengthen our attack if a deal is done, with Smith and Villa looking to add more quality and creativity in the final third after our struggles in the second half of last season in the absence of skipper Jack Grealish.
While there are other areas to address this summer too, it remains to be seen if Alvarez could be the next arrival following the signings of Buendia and Ashley Young last month.
