After his heroics and subsequent triumph at the World Cup, Emiliano Martinez is expected to stay at Aston Villa despite speculation suggesting otherwise.
The 30-year-old has established himself as a fundamental figure in our side since his arrival in 2020, and he committed his long-term future early in the year by signing a new deal that runs until 2027.
Martinez has never been shy about expressing his gratitude and love for Villa publicly, but naturally after starring at the World Cup and amid the increase in attention and interest from big clubs around Europe that comes with that, it’s natural that there is concern over a potential exit.

While we wait to see when the Argentine shot-stopper returns from the celebrations back home and speaks directly on his future, Fabrizio Romano has dismissed talk of an exit amid links with Bayern Munich, and has stated that the expectation is that Martinez will stay at Villa, as per his tweet below.
That’s a huge boost and crucial for our plans moving forward, as Unai Emery will no doubt want to build around the key individuals already at his disposal rather than have to replace them, and Martinez is certainly one of them.
In turn, while we are in a strong position given the length of his contract which would allow us to demand a significant fee if an exit did become more of a concern, it seems as though fears over a departure in the short-term have been allayed.
The challenge for all concerned moving forward though is to build on our positive start under Emery and continue to push up the table. If we are to keep our world-class individuals and continue to attract top talent to compete at the top end of the Premier League table, we need continuous progression and improvement to match their ambitions.
World Cup success with his country will be the crowning achievement of Martinez’s career and nothing will arguably beat it, but having had a taste for success and trophies, he’ll surely want to experience that more regularly at club level too in the coming years and Villa will hopefully continue to move in that direction.
