Aston Villa transfer news: Gazzaniga linked, Rashica price-tag halved

Aston Villa have been linked with a possible move for Paulo Gazzaniga, while we could be alerted by Milot Rashica’s new price-tag this summer.

With Tom Heaton’s contract set to expire next month, Villa could be in the market for a goalkeeper to fill that void and bring in depth and competition for Emiliano Martinez.

Jed Steer is currently considered third choice, and while Lovre Kalinic will return from his loan spell at Hajduk Split, there is uncertainty over where his future lies.

Villa linked with Gazzaniga

In turn, a possible signing has emerged as BirminghamLive report that Gazzaniga could be considered by Villa after Spurs released the Argentine shot-stopper, as confirmed on their official site.

The 29-year-old could be a decent option to provide back-up for compatriot Martinez, and with Villa likely to be keen to focus their summer budget on other areas of the squad, the fact that we could pick him up on a free transfer will likely make this a more appealing signing too.

Gazzaniga featured 37 times for Spurs after joining them in 2017, having previously made 23 appearances at Southampton, and would arguably be content with a role on the bench while trying to force his way into the starting line-up.

Former Villa target Rashica has €15m price-tag

Elsewhere, Kicker report that Rashica could be available for around €15m this summer after Werder Bremen’s relegation from the Bundesliga this past season.

It’s added that his departure is expected to go through before the squad returns for pre-season training in three weeks time, while Villa are specifically mentioned in the article having reportedly made a €30m offer to sign him in 2019.

The latest development could in turn alert us as he may be available for half of that, although the 24-year-old managed just three goals and five assists in 26 outings last season and so we would surely have to analyse whether or not he is capable of reaching his previous levels again or if that was just a purple patch in form for him.

In order to take the pressure and responsibility off Jack Grealish, Villa are expected to strengthen our attacking options this summer, and so time will tell whether or not Rashica is still on their radar and could emerge as a potential solution in the coming weeks.
