Aston Villa transfer news: Gerrard scouts Boubacar Kamara

Aston Villa boss Steven Gerrard was in attendance to reportedly watch Boubacar Kamara in Marseille’s clash with Nantes on Wednesday night.

Having emerged as an area that needs improvement, Villa are expected to bring in reinforcements for the defensive midfielder role with a number of targets being touted in recent months.

One of whom has been Kamara, and as reported by RMC Sport, it appears as though Gerrard was keen to take a closer look at the 22-year-old in midweek.

It’s noted that the objective of the trip from a Villa perspective was to watch Kamara specifically, with the tweet below showing Gerrard, Christian Purslow and Johan Lange at the game.

While it’s unclear at this stage as to how advanced any possible Villa move for Kamara is, the presence of Purslow and Lange would suggest that the interest is serious and perhaps at a stage whereby the club officials are holding discussions over a potential transfer.

Kamara is set to become a free agent this summer when his current contract with Marseille expires, and so talks would possibly have taken place directly with his representatives over a summer move, and so it’s undoubtedly one to monitor moving forward as we look to bolster our midfield ranks ahead of next season.

With 162 appearances for Marseille to his name already along with nine caps at U21s level for France, Kamara has emerged as one of the top talents in Europe in his position, and it’s expected that there will be rival interest in him ahead of the summer transfer window.

In turn, if Villa are convinced that he’s the best-suited solution to our problems in midfield, then it’s wise for them to move quickly and get ahead of the competition and hopefully wrap up an early summer signing if Kamara can be convinced over a move to Villa Park for the next stage of his career.
