Aston Villa have reportedly now reached an agreement with Liverpool over the initial loan signing of Harvey Elliott, with an obligation to buy clause included.
The 22-year-old joined the Merseyside giants from Fulham in 2019 and has gone on to contribute 15 goals and 20 assists in 149 appearances.

During that time, he’s helped the club win numerous pieces of silverware, while he’s impressed at U21s level for England with 14 goals in 28 caps.
Despite having accrued all that experience already, he’s still a young player with plenty more room for improvement, and that process is seemingly now set to continue at Villa under the guidance of Unai Emery, with The Athletic reporting that an agreement is now in place with Liverpool, and he’ll undergo a medical before completing his initial loan switch, with an obligation to buy next summer.
Further, David Ornstein adds that the transfer fee could be around £35m next year, and so it remains to be seen whether or not it proves to be a sensible piece of business from Villa.
Elliott is a natural attacking midfielder but has the versatility to play in other roles too, but with Villa struggling for quality, creativity and goals so far this season, he’ll hopefully be an important fit for Emery’s system and style of play, and help us get our campaign going after the international break, having made a bitterly disappointing start.
Coupled with the expected signing of Jadon Sancho in another loan swoop as well as the confirmed addition of Victor Lindelof, Villa are making much-needed signings on deadline day to address glaring concerns, and it’s hoped that those who are being added to the squad are capable of making a significant difference moving forward.
With his technical ability, composure and vision, Elliott ticks a lot of crucial boxes when it comes to suiting our way of playing, and so if he can demonstrate that and continue to take his game to the next level, this will hopefully prove to be a pivotal signing that helps us continue to compete and progress both in the short-term and long-term future.
