Aston Villa transfer news: €25m+ bid accepted for winger

Aston Villa have reportedly reached an agreement with Watford over a transfer fee for winger Ismaila Sarr but discussions are ongoing over personal terms.

With the transfer window deadline approaching, Villa are expected to continue to do business in the coming days, and it appears as though we’re edging closer to our next summer signing.

As per Fabrizio Romano, Villa have had a bid of €25m plus €3m in add-ons accepted by Watford, and so now it will progress to trying to reach an agreement on personal terms with Sarr.

The 24-year-old scored five goals and provided two assists in 22 appearances in the Premier League last season, and is undoubtedly a key figure for Watford as they aim to return to the top flight next year.

However, it appears as though Villa are set to prise him away from Vicarage Road and bolster Steven Gerrard’s attacking options instead.

With more pressing concerns and issues elsewhere in the squad, namely in midfield and defence, it’s questionable as to whether Villa necessarily need to sign another winger as a priority, especially as we’re still struggling to get the best out of our current attacking options and leaking too many goals.

Nevertheless, it appears as though the club are going to back Gerrard in the latter stages of the window as we look to try and improve after a disappointing start to the Premier League campaign having lost two of our opening three games thus far.

Sarr would add more quality in the final third on the right wing and is an exciting attacking talent, but what that would mean for the likes of Philippe Coutinho, Emiliano Buendia, Leon Bailey and others in the squad remains to be seen as that would be additional competition for places where players are already struggling and frustrated over a lack of playing time.

Further, with the likes of Anwar El Ghazi and Bertrand Traore still amongst the group, there will surely have to be sales first to free up space and resources before Villa can press ahead with bringing Sarr in as our latest reinforcement.
