Aston Villa are reportedly set to hold talks with Jacob Ramsey on Wednesday amid speculation over a potential exit to join Newcastle United.
It was reported late on Tuesday night that the 24-year-old was closing in on a move to Tyneside with a deal almost agreed between the two clubs worth £40m.

That in turn led to a split reaction given the sentimental aspect of losing one of our star Academy products, but with that fee in mind coupled with Ramsey’s injuries and inconsistency in recent years, it could be argued as a sensible deal for all concerned.
However, according to The Athletic, Ramsey is expected to hold talks with Villa on Wednesday to determine his future, as he hasn’t agreed on personal terms with Newcastle as of yet, but the expectation is that an outcome either way could be imminent.
The mere fact that talks are set to take place between the two parties would suggest that there is still a possibility that he could agree on a new contract with Villa and extend his stay with us as it’s unclear what other viable reason there would be for them, albeit it remains to be seen if there is a successful breakthrough in negotiations given it has previously been reported this week that Villa have struggled to reach an agreement with him.
Nevertheless, it had sounded relatively certain that he would be leaving us around 12 hours prior to this latest development, and so it remains to be seen if that’s the most likely outcome to this scenario still.
On one hand, Villa would be losing a top talent that has yet to fulfil his potential, but it could be argued that Unai Emery has worked with him long enough now to know if that’s a possibility in a Villa shirt or not, but a sale for the touted £40m fee would arm us with significant funds to go on and strengthen the squad with new signings in the back-end of this summer transfer window.
This latest round of talks between Villa and Ramsey certainly sound as though they could prove to be decisive in determining where he plays this season, and while there will be some who argue that we should take the £40m and move on, others will no doubt be holding out hope that a resolution is found to keep our homegrown midfield ace at the club this year and beyond.
