Aston Villa are reportedly admirers of Valencia midfielder Javi Guerra, who is said to be attracting plenty of interest this summer.
The 22-year-old was a product of the Villarreal youth system initially but has been with Valencia since 2019 and has come through their youth ranks in the time that has passed since.

With three goals and three assists to go with his overall influence in their midfield last season in 38 appearances for the first-team, he established himself as a key figure in the side, and his form has seemingly attracted attention from around Europe.
According to Italian journalist Daniele Longo, both AC Milan and Atletico Madrid are said to be considering a swoop for the Spaniard this summer, while Villa are also explicitly mentioned as being potentially interested in him too. It’s added that it could cost around €25m to prise him away from the La Liga side, and so it remains to be seen if that acts as a successful deterrent in our case at least.
Guerra is currently representing Spain U21s at the European Championship and so no decision on his club future is likely to be imminent, but it will be interesting to see how the situation plays out once the tournament has concluded and Villa have hopefully addressed our PSR concerns by then too.
That said, it’s questionable as to whether our midfield is even an area of focus in this transfer window given the options we already have available to Unai Emery, with Youri Tielemans, Boubacar Kamara, Amadou Onana and Ross Barkley all already battling for a starting berth.
It perhaps indicates that Guerra is seen as a potential option if we are to sell one of those individuals this month, while there is also a key decision to be made on his teammate this past season with Enzo Barrenechea returning to Villa after a productive loan stint with Valencia.
There is a lot of uncertainty and moving pieces as things stand with Villa focusing on outgoings and addressing our financial issues before June 30, and while it’s hoped that solutions emerge to ensure that it doesn’t become a bigger concern, we’ll certainly look to strengthen Emery’s squad once that deadline passes, and Guerra could be a name to watch out for.
