Contact made but club talks on hold as Villa demands could prevent deal

Juventus have reportedly made direct contact with Emiliano Martinez’s representatives as they continue to be paired with a move for him this summer.

Since joining us in 2020, the 33-year-old has been a fundamental figure in our progression and success, and remains a vital presence in the squad with his experience, character and quality between the posts.

However, he was heavily linked with a move elsewhere last summer which ultimately never materialised, but it hasn’t taken long for speculation to build over his future again just 12 months later.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Juventus have made direct contact with Martinez’s representatives as he remains their priority target in this transfer window, but it’s added that no club to club talks are expected until after his World Cup campaign with Argentina comes to an end, and Villa’s valuation of the shot-stopper is said to potentially be a key factor that might scupper any agreement being reached.

In turn, it remains to be seen if a deal can be done and whether or not Martinez has indicated to the Turin giants that he would be open to a move to Serie A next season, but rumours over his future are seemingly not going away any time soon.

Martinez has made 256 appearances for Villa and will go down as a club great, particularly after helping us to another Champions League qualification spot and winning the Europa League last season.

As he continues to showcase his class at international level this summer, there’s no doubt that he remains one of the best in his position, but with Villa under financial stress again with a reported need to sell in order to balance our books and cut our wage bill, an exit for Martinez might be deemed necessary.

Further, it could be the right time to bring in a younger, long-term option in the position which would help with the above too in terms of lower wages, and so time will tell if Villa are open to selling this summer and whether or not a compromise can be reached with Juventus to open the door for a move to Italy for Martinez.
