Fee agreed for exit of dispensable Villa forward but obstacle remains

Aston Villa have reportedly agreed on a fee of around £2m plus add-ons to send Keinan Davis to Hull City in a permanent move.

The 25-year-old has been with the club since 2015, and has since gone on to make 86 appearances at senior level, scoring six goals and providing seven assists.

However, he has spent time out on loan at Nottingham Forest and Watford over the past 18 months, as it became clear that he doesn’t have a role to play for us moving forward.

In turn, an exit would be the best outcome for all concerned with Davis having less than a year remaining on his current contract, and it appears as though we could be moving closer to offloading him.

According to The Athletic, Villa and Hull have agreed terms on a deal worth £2m plus add-ons, although it’s added that personal terms have yet to be agreed and so it remains to be seen if Davis himself signs off on the move.

It’s suggested that he has interest from elsewhere, with Luton Town a possible option to provide him with a chance of Premier League football this season, and so time will tell if the proposed deal goes through or not.

Davis isn’t the only Villa player being paired with a move to Hull this week, as the report above also adds that Jaden Philogene could join the Championship outfit in a move worth around £5m.

With Aaron Ramsey expected to leave and amid speculation over Cameron Archer’s future, it appears as though Villa are open to selling our youth products this summer.

That in turn will help us balance our books with FFP in mind as well as giving ourselves more financial flexibility to continue to strengthen Unai Emery’s squad this summer, and so it will be interesting to see how much movement there is in terms of outgoings in the coming days and weeks.

A common theme that has come up in these situations though is reports of buy-back clauses being inserted in any agreements, and while it’s unlikely that there will be one for Davis, it’s sensible from the club to have one for the likes of Ramsey, Archer and Philogene, given their potential.
