Interest expected in versatile Villa ace as key decision needed this summer

Aston Villa reportedly expect to receive offers for Lamare Bogarde this summer and so a key decision will be needed on his future.

The 22-year-old joined us from Feyenoord in 2020 and went on to play a key role in our recent success at youth level before making his breakthrough into the senior squad.

Having made 44 appearances across all competitions last season, Bogarde established himself as an important option for Unai Emery and a vital part of the group as we competed across multiple fronts.

However, Villa may well have a decision to make on his future this summer, as the Express and Star report that the club expect to receive offers in the coming weeks and months, with both Brighton and Sunderland said to be keeping tabs on him as they eye a potential swoop to bolster their own respective squads.

Bogarde’s current contract expires in 2028, and so if no progress is made in renewal talks, that will only strengthen the argument in favour of selling in this transfer window, as Villa could maximise the profit we receive on his sale given his development and impressive contribution last year, which in turn could give us a crucial financial boost when it comes to trying to balance our books again this year.

That said, should we opt to approve an exit, it would be a disappointing blow as Bogarde’s versatility and technical quality stood out last season, as he was able to fill in at right-back or in midfield for Emery when we were struggling with injuries, while given he’s still only 22, there is significant room for improvement still as he could go on to become a top player.

In turn, we’ll likely need to replace him if he were to move on, but time will tell if suitable offers arrive in order to convince Villa that the sensible move would be to sell and reinvest those funds back into the squad.
